Yesterday I finally had some good photo ops with the Black Bear (Ursus americanus) sow and her three cubs-of-the-year or spring cubs. After the sow called the cubs down from a tree, where they had been sent for safe keeping while the sow foraged nearby, they headed straight for a pond to drink. They drank among some short grass growing in the pond, so unfortunately the cubs' faces were mostly obscured. On their way back up the hill away from the pond, the cubs paused at the base of a tree to play (above). Those little guys are so cute!
