Little Susitna River Cascades
Hatcher Pass, Alaska, USA
Canon EOS 1Ds Mk III, 24 TS, 5-stop ND, polarizer, 4 sec, f8, ISO 100
Image taken on September 15, 2009.
I've been processing images from our trip to Alaska in 2009, and wanted to share this image. It's one of the last images I took in Alaska before we started to make our way back to the lower 48, and is more typical of my style than the image I posted two days ago. Cascades through boulders with fall color are always interesting, and the sun hadn't risen enough to provide direct light on the scene. I used the tilt motion of my old Canon TS-E 24mm f3.5 L (Mk I) to align the plane of focus along the foreground boulders and the lower part of the trees in the background. I used a polarizer to reduce some of the reflections and approximately 5 stops of solid neutral density filter to lengthen the exposure to increase the blur of the water.
