On our way back from Alaska, we stopped in Jasper National Park for a few days. We saw lots of bighorn sheep, but initially only ewes and lambs. Then we finally located some rams. Yes, I, like most wildlife photographers, practice sexual discrimination — male animals with their impressive horns or antlers are usually more interesting than the females. This is one of my favorite images of a bighorn ram from our stay. I like to get tight yet still show enough of the animal to make it easily recognizable. By using a long lens, in this case my 500 f4 and 1.4x tele-extender, the background which was rather far away and uniform to begin with was blurred even more to make the subject really stand out.
