On our first morning at Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge, we set up at a crane pool on the east side of NM-1 and waited for the sun to illuminate the steam rising off the pond. I was drawn to the tree on the far side of the pond with a group of sandhill cranes in the water among the steam. As I waited for the cranes to line up properly, another group of cranes took off and flew through my frame. I fired off a bunch of shots and liked the image above the best.
