The weather turned south in Waterton Lakes National Park and we weren't able to get any good images of bears. So, here's a wildlife image from our visit to the Bernardo Wildlife Area of the Ladd S. Gordon Wildlife Complex in New Mexico in January. The Bernadro Wildlife Area is just to the north of the more-famouse Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge, and is an equally good location for photography with the added benefit of hardly any other photographers. This crane was calling as it began its approach for landing one morning.

Great shot. I've tried for one like this, but haven't made it yet.

Thanks for your comments Kris. It takes practice panning to get an image like this and any large bird will do, even gulls or geese. To capture "the image," it helps to be in a location like Bernardo or Bosque where there are lots of subjects so you have a better chance of seeing, and being in the right place to photograph, unique behavior or action.
