Steamboat Mountain At Sunset in the Kaibab National Forest, Arizona

We visited the North Rim of the Grand Canyon last September and spent most of our time in the Kaibab National Forest. It was my first time to explore some of the more remote locations on the North Rim, and I particularly liked the photographic opportunities at Locust Point. One evening, we had some nice clouds and spectacular color, and I made the image above of Steamboat Mountain. Even with a 3-stop hard grad neutral density filter, part of the sky was still too bright. So, I made two exposures to capture detail throughout, and I also processed the exposure for the foreground twice to bring out even more detail and balance the overall scene. I combined the three resulting TIFF files by hand in Photoshop.
