Mountain Bluebird in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming

Yesterday in Yellowstone National Park was fantastic! We started off photographing wildflowers, and the conditions and subjects were much better than the day before. Then we photographed a cooperative Uinta ground squirrel in a nice location followed by a sleepy coyote in some nice green grass, a yellow pine chipmunk on a nice rock, and bighorn sheep ewes and lambs on a rocky horizon with blue sky behind them.

The best part of the day was last. While exploring a meadow looking for a badger, we came upon a mountain bluebird nest. We photographed the male and female as they would fly in with food, land near the nest, and then depart to go hunting again. We had the whole area to ourselves — except for the occasional pronghorn that walked by. My favorite image of the day is of the female mountain bluebird with an insect in her beak.
