Black-Shouldered Kite Pair in Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, South Africa

On our third full day in Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, and our first based out of Mata Mata, we had lots of good opportunities to photograph birds. Highlights included a martial eagle pair at a nest with mating and nest-building behavior, and a black-chested snake eagle in flight with a snake in its beak.

My favorite image of the day is of a black-shouldered kite mating. We had stopped to photograph the female on a nice perch, and the next thing we knew the male flew in and they proceeded to mate. In the image above, the male had just arrived and was getting into position.
