On our last morning at Boulders Beach in Simon's Town, South Africa, we went out to photograph the African penguins one last time. There was only a very thin band of clouds to the east, and shortly after sunrise the light started to get harsh quickly. I couldn't resist firing off a few frames when a penguin crossed a small tide pool with a really nice reflection even though the light was challenging. The image above was created from one RAW file processed three times to bring out detail in the shadows and highlights and then combined by hand in Photoshop.
