Lioness Hunting A Cape Buffalo Herd, Addo Elephant National Park, South Africa

It was thrilling to watch two Lioness (Lion, Panthera leo) hunt a herd of Cape Buffalo (Syncerus caffer) very close to the road in Addo Elephant National Park during our visit earlier this year.

While they were probing the herd, some of the buffalo started to chase one of the lionesses who then aborted an attack.

After the threat had gone away, the lioness turned back to press the herd again.

Then one lioness continued to search for a weak individual after the herd was split.

Our encounter ended after one lioness returned to pressing the attack to find a weak individual, and she ended up pushing the herd away from the road and out of good photography range.
