We went to a named formation in the Bisti Wilderness last night. Jan has been wanting to go to it since we first visited Bisti five years ago, but the location had been a secret until Jan uncovered the directions a few months ago. While at the special formation, I spent most of my time photographing the results of previous visitors. Some of the mounds of dirt have a characteristic way of cracking into roughly two-inch (5-cm) chunks when the dirt dries, and prior visitors had walked over them and had left footprints in the mud. On subsequent rains, the footprints collected a different kind of mud that dries mostly flat, and I was drawn to the contrast between the types of cracks.
