Masai Giraffe Drinking in Serengeti National Park, Tanzania

Here's another image from my photo tour to Tanzania this past February that shows interesting behavior. Giraffes must bend down awkwardly to drink. This makes them vulnerable to predators and hence they're very skittish when drinking. Usually, even an approaching safari vehicle will cause them to stop drinking, so it's very unusual to see and photograph a giraffe drinking. I just love the scientific name for a giraffe: Giraffa camelopardalis. That's literally camelopard because it has a general shape like a camel and a coat like a leopard.
