It was raining when we awoke yesterday morning in Banff National Park. The rain tapered off an hour or so later, but the solid cloud layer was still thick. The clouds started to break up mid morning and I headed up to Moraine Lake. I stopped to photograph the clouds mingling with the peaks to the east of Moraine Lake, then finally made it to Moraine Lake itself. I found a good foreground then waited for the clouds to behave. It was 12:35 by the time I made this image — who says you can't make wonderful images in the middle of the day?! The image was created from three exposures to balance the bright clouds and dark shoreline and then combined by hand in Photoshop. After processing the image as usual, I added a B&W layer using the technique I mentioned yesterday, and boy did the image really pop! The image without (below left) and with (below right) the B&W layer are shown below.
Boy! Did it ever! I can really see it in the reflection.

Yes, it improves the reflection, but I see the most difference in the clouds. At this size, the cloud in the upper left corner shows the most difference.
