Bull Elk in Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada

Another image from our trip to Alaska in 2009 … On our way back from Alaska, we were in Jasper National Park during the elk rut and had many good opportunities to photograph the big bulls as they competed for females. One of my favorite images is of a bull proudly standing atop a small hill after defeating a rival (above). The fur on his side had been roughed up by the other bull's antlers.
