Lions Mating in Serengeti National Park, Tanzania

The sixth day of my safari in Tanzania, and the second in the central Serengeti, included an other encounter on the "Premium Option Tour."

The day started off with some very cooperative olive baboons in nice light and I was able to get some nice face shots.

The highlight of the day was being able to photograph two lions mating. It was early in the afternoon and the heat waves weren't good for photography, but the lions were mating very close to the road and it's hard to pass up the opportunity to photograph this behavior that one doesn't always see on safari. They followed typical mating behavior by copulating once every half hour, and the third time was a charm, for photography, because they were facing us.

The day ended with an other group of cooperative baboons including two different infants riding on their mother's back and a toddler playing in a tree — lots of fun to photograph.
