I've returned to Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge for a couple of days and had a fantastic encounter with this female American Kestrel or Sparrow Hawk (Falco sparverius) yesterday afternoon as she was hunting insects not too far from the auto loop. She moved from low perch to low perch as she made several circuits of the area, and I had several opportunities to photograph her in flight when she was in range.
