Rosy Paintbrush near Crested Butte, Gunnison National Forest, Colorado

Yesterday morning, I returned to the same area as I had been photographing the night before because I wasn't quite done with the Rosy Paintbrush bloom in the image above when the wind had picked up. I started making some images in portrait orientation which is my usual way of photographing these tall narrow blooms. As I kept zeroing in on what had attracted me to this particular bloom, the small pistil and stamen poking out, the portrait orientation was no longer working for me so I switched to landscape orientation. Bingo — I had my image!
