Some of the most unique rock formations I've seen are in Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument, New Mexico. They're hoodoos, but the combination of the cap rock and underlying rock creates cone-shaped hoodoos instead of columns or mushrooms. The overall light beige color of the rocks is made more interesting photographically by the different layers. Include something that really sticks out against the rocks, like a dead tree, and it makes for an interesting image.
