Quiver Tree At Dawn in Namakwa, South Africa

I returned to the special quiver tree area on our last morning in Springbok hoping to improve upon the images I made the previous day. It had been quite windy then and the tips of the quiver tree branches were getting blown around — not a good thing with long exposures. The wind was much lighter today and I knew exactly where to set up to get good compositions under various lighting conditions.

My favorite image is of a quiver tree on the horizon before sunrise. I like to photograph at that time of day because the diffuse light on the foreground doesn't create harsh shadows and the sky has wonderful pastel colors. The color was a bit weak this morning, but it was still sufficient to provide a nice background for the scene.
