After leaving Simon's Town, we headed up the west coast of South Africa and went to Lambert's Bay. Just offshore there, and connected by a breakwater, is Bird Island, the location of a large colony of Cape gannets. We went out early on our first morning there to photograph the birds at the colony. My favorite image of the morning is of a Cape gannet on final approach to landing over the colony.
