Cape Giraffe in Hluhluwe Game Reserve, South Africa

After leaving Kruger National Park, we spent the night in Piet Retief and Jan thoroughly enjoyed our accommodations, which included internet access. The next day, we drove to Hluhluwe Game Reserve, (Hluhluwe is pronounced like "Shlu-shlu-we"), which is operated by Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife, the governmental wildlife conservation organization of KwaZulu-Natal Province. Hluhluwe, and neighboring Imfolozi Game Reserve, are great places to photograph white rhinocerous because Hluhluwe was the home of Operation Rhino in the 1950s and 60s which was instrumental in saving the white rhinoceros from extinction. Today, Hluhluwe and Imfolozi have the largest population of white rhino in the world with more than 1600 individuals.

My favorite image of the day is of a cape giraffe eating. It was down a hill from the road, so we were able to photograph it from near its eye level.
