While Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge is known for sandhill crane and snow goose photography, I was particularly interested in photographing a roadrunner on our visit there in early January 2011. We had photographed two different cooperative roadrunners on our previous visit in December 2009, and I wanted to get some better images this time.

Finally on our last morning, I found a roadrunner. It was sunning itself in the bushes by the road and didn't mind me approaching in the Jeep to photograph it, but the environment was messy. I was able to maneuver to get some different views, and it moved into a slightly better position than where I had found it, but I wasn't able to get the image I was looking for before another vehicle pulled up behind me and the roadrunner ran off into the tall grass.

That happens. I got my best RR at Bosque though I liked the one we saw with you at Salton Sea. I just needed more glass then...
