While driving around the Farm Loop of Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge one afternoon, we came upon a most cooperative sharp-shinned hawk. It was perched in the brush by the road and let us approach and take a few shots. Then it flew down the road about 25 yds (23m), landed in the brush by the road, and let us photograph it again. This happened about five times before it flew away from the road. It was an incredible encounter!

Sure is a sleek-looking raptor.
